Story Times

A teacher's dream... Madeline loves books! Here she is on a Saturday morning cuddled up with Dad in bed, reading one of her favorites. In fact, lately when I go in to get her in the morning, the first thing she asks for is a book!
One morning she crawled into Greta's bed in our living room and made herself comfortable while reading some books from our bookcase.
Galelio is a title that she picks up often. Maybe she'll be a history buff like her dad!

Grandma's 60th Birthday

We surprised Grandma Schmitt at school on her 60th birthday. Laura made this picture collage and brought it to school early in the morning. Then we came with flowers and balloons. She was very surprised!
That weekend we took a trip downtown Chicago. We went out to dinner at Harry Carey's, then Dan and Madeline went back to our hotel while Mom, Dad, Laura, Mark, and I went to see "Jersey Boys". What a great show!

First haircut!

At -10 degrees outside, it gets pretty dry inside. Hair gets mighty static-y and unruly.
I've been wondering what to do with Madeline's hair for a while now. It was getting shaggy, but I didn't know how to cut it with a girl style. (I've been cutting Dan's hair since we were dating.)
So we battled the cold and went to Kid Snips to have a professional do it. She sat very still while the stylist made about five cuts. (I totally could have done that!)
But it looks much better now, and the stylist kindly only charged me $5!
What a pretty girl!

Snow Fun with Dad

Dan thought it would be great fun to get her bundled and take her outside to play in the snow- throw snowballs, make snow angles. But she just looked up at him in a wise-beyond-her-years way and appeared to say, "This is not my idea of fun, Dad."
This picture was taken right before she turned and walked right off the deck, landing face first into the pile of snow. She was then happy to come inside with Mom and just watch Dad from the kitchen window.

Gone Sledding

We tried to take Greta for a walk around the block, but only got to the corner before we had to turn around and come back home. Ahhh... I long for summer!
Do you think this scarf is working??

Finger Painting

As these cold winter days keep us inside most of the time, we're having fun where we can. Chocolate pudding made great finger paint, although I think she got more pudding on herself than she did on the paper!

The Girls

We spent the afternoon at Woodfield Mall with good friends Jason and Kristi and their kids. Here, Madeline and Ella get cozy in a chair while shopping.
